Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is not a theme but part of day-to-day operations at Jalema. A harmonious combination of people, planet and profit enables Jalema to offer an efficient package of archiving solutions and office supply products.
At Jalema, we put our words into actions by giving concrete meaning to our sense of social responsibility. By providing meaningful work to the mentally disabled, by developing new products on the basis of the cradle to cradle philosophy, by developing a special social fund that supports charitable initiatives both in the Netherlands and abroad and also by investing in product and other innovations that help preserve jobs in the immediate vicinity.
An integral part of our company culture is consideration for people, their needs, their drives and their well-being. This flexibility in turn enables Jalema to quickly respond to changing market conditions.

Trade and industry are playing an increasingly important part in issues such as climate change, energy shortage, poverty, diversity, and public health. This creates obligations while also presenting opportunities. The Dutch organisation for CSR – MVO Nederland – helps organisations to successfully fulfil this role and seize the opportunities offered by CSR.

Jalema is the first manufacturer of professional filing systems in the Netherlands to receive Cradle to Cradle certification. No fewer than four complete product lines, with a total of 53 products, have been awarded the following designation from the MBDC (product and process design firm founded by Michael Braungart and William McDonough): "Cradle to Cradle Silver Certified".
This certification is the crowning achievement of Jalema’s long-standing goal to develop products and processes in accordance with the Cradle to C2C principle.
A Jalema working group has been working for many years with sustainable raw materials and production methods. Since all production takes place in the Netherlands, it can be easily controlled and monitored. The step towards C2C certification was therefore a logical one.
C2C certification also shows that Jalema products meet all sustainability guidelines established by the government for sustainable purchasing practices. Starting 1 January 2010, all government agencies are required to comply with these guidelines. Jalema is now able to provide complete archiving and filing systems with maps and folders that meet C2C guidelines. Commercial Director Frank Demarteau comments: “Our four certified product lines currently contain a total of 53 products that are C2C certified. Every user of work files and document-handling folders can soon opt for a sustainable and C2C-certified version. This certification is also evidence that our 'sustainability policy' of many years has born fruit.”
A second life for the JalemaClip and/or the JalemaClipex fits in perfectly with Jalema’s sustainability policy. After scanning in or destroying of (old) files, large numbers of files that make use of the JalemaClip mechanism are emptied. Normally these are recycled to be used as a raw material for new products. Which is a pity because of the energy used for this (and the resulting CO2 emission); and even more so because the clip and the cover are simply reusable.
That is why Jalema has adjusted its processes in such a way that old clips and covers can be reused. The covers and clips are checked, and subsequently cleaned in a sustainable way. Next, they are packaged together with a new brace and sold at a reduced price under the product names 2nd LifeClip and 2nd LifeClipex.
