You often hear that products have one or more certifications. In most cases you have heard about it or you recognize the logo on the packaging, but what do these certificates exactly mean and why are they so important? That’s exactly what we are going to tell you in this article.

Blue Angel

The Blue Angel certificate comes from Germany and is originally called ‘der Blaue Engel’. Certified products and services, are products that meet strict environmental requirements. People regularly throw things away, but don’t realize that the raw material still can be used for other purposes. Take the Re-Solution series of Jalema; this series is completely made out of recycled materials and therefore carries the Blue Angel label. We are proud of that! Did you know that you might also be contributing to this? The plastic products from the Re-Solution line are made from grinded old coat hangers and the inside of refrigerators. So, it is possible that they come from your own kitchen or wardrobe. A nice thought, right?

FSC®

FSC® is the abbreviation for Forest Stewardship Council. FSC® is an international organization that exist for more than 25 years (founded in 1993). The core business of the FSC® organization is to ensure that forests, both tropical and non-tropical, are well managed. The FSC® label makes the wood recognizable for the end user. It is possible to follow the entire chain of custody, from the felled tree to the final storage folder. You can use the code on the folder to explore out of which tree the wood comes from. The FSC® certificate is provided by one of the fifteen independent organizations accredited by FSC®. Wood is the basic raw material for paper and cardboard and therefore falls within the FSC® chain of custody. Jalema offers many different types of folders and business forms that comply with FSC® certification.

ICN 1

In addition to the Blue Angel and FSC® certifications, Jalema has included products to their collection that comply with the ICN label. To be more precise, Jalema carries the ICN 1, 2 and 12 certificates on various products. ICN is a label awarded by the Dutch Institute for Collective Studies. An archive folder without an adhesive mechanism is eligible for the ICN 1 certification and is suitable for permanent storage. This means that the documents can be stored in these folders for a long time without damaging the content.

ICN 2

The ICN 2 certificate is a quality requirement for archive folders with adhesive mechanism, in which the requirements for the cardboard are heavier than those for the ICN 1 certification. This has to do with the extra impact that the adhesive mechanism brings with it onto the environment.

ICN 12

ICN 12 is a certificate that meets the requirements of quality, physical properties and the durability of the adhesive mechanisms that are used in archive folders that are made out of paper or cardboard. These folders are used in static archives.
