JAG in the spotlight!

Jalema values Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Not only CSR regarding the environment (for example all of our FSC®-certified products), but also on a social level. Recently the municipality of Beesel treated us to a couple of pies in as part of the Day of 1000 Examples. On this day, attention is paid to inclusive Dutch employers. These are employers who provide workplaces for people with a distance to the job market. At Jalema, we do this at the Jalema Assembly Group, or the JAG.

JAG

In 1998 the JAG originated with the goal to provide daily activities for clients of healthcare providers. After all, Jalema had the space and it made the logistic part of production easier because all of the assembly could be taken care of in-house. Apart from that, it was a step forward for the JAG’s employees (called “participants” within Jalema) because they actually had to go to their work. Every morning they’re picked up and brought home, although some of the participants come by themselves. The work at JAG also teaches them some independency, because every participant gets a job, order-oriented. For example, the JAG is responsible for the assembly of the JalemaClip and all of the sealing-jobs.

A permanent part of Jalema

The trial year, which started on the 16th of February in 1998, was a big success. Since then the JAG has become a permanent part of Jalema where approximately 30 participants and 8 employees, including caretakers, operate. We’re proud of that! The impairments of the participants are mostly types of Down’s Syndrome and autism. Of course sometimes participants have other limitations, for example a participant with a visual impairment. Over the years we have worked with a number of healthcare providers and now we’re cooperating with PSW to provide for occupation of the JAG, which pleases both parties.

Because it’s World Down’s Syndrome Day we want to thank the participants and the employees of the JAG for the work that they do. Now, the JAG has become an essential department at Jalema!
